Archaeology Night: SOHS Hanley Farm
On August 10th, SOHS is partnering with SOULA (Southern Oregon University Laboratory of Anthropology), the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, the Oregon Chinese Diaspora Project, and the Portland Chinatown Museum to host “Archaeology Night” at Hanley Farm.
Come on by for a fun night of participatory learning about Oregon’s archaeological history!
Activities will include:
-Archaeology 101: learn basic concepts like survey pacing, cross-mending, and stratigraphy
-Practice the ancient art of atl-atl throwing
-Test your animal bone knowledge with our “Faunal Matching” game
-View the Jim Rock Historic Bottle and Can Collection and learn what these items teach us about history
-Try your hand at our History Scavenger Hunt
-Learn about the archaeology of Hanley Farm
- View the Portland Chinatown Museum’s pop-up exhibit on the Oregon Chinese Diaspora Project
-See the latest finds from the Oregon Chinese Diaspora Project’s summer field work
AND Kona Ice will be on site keeping things cool with delicious shaved ice!
The farm will be open from 5-8 pm for this fun event. Pack a picnic, and bring the whole family!
