SUMMARY:Quilt & Genealogy Talk: The Gin Lin Quilt
DESCRIPTION:With the discovery of gold in California\, Chinese miners and laborers traveled to the States to "seek their fortune." Some were successful\, including Gin Lin\, a prominent Chinese mine boss. It's reported that he had "an account worth over $1 million in Cornelius Beekman's Jacksonville bank." However\, Lin's success\, along with the success of others\, fed the ill will and prejudice towards the Chinese. Unfair laws were enacted\, driving many Chinese away from the area. What happened to those who chose to stay?\n\n \n\nNovember 27\, Southern Oregon Historical Society Archivist and Historian\, Pat Harper\, will discuss what we know about Gin Lin and life in general for Chinese workers living in Jackson County in the 19th century. You'll also learn the history of the "Gin Lin Quilt\," inspired by the SOHS Chinese Dragon robe.\n\n \n\nNovember 27\, 1:30pm-2:30pm\, Jackson County Genealogy Library\, 3405 S.
